July 2002 trip to Woods Hole
Notes and comment on going to Woods Hole MA July 21-28 2002.

It sleeps approximately 10 people. Woods Hole is about 7 hours by car from Reading PA, or 2.5 hours from Providence RI, or 3.5 hours from Boston (counting traffic).

What to Do at Woods Hole
- Go to Gansett Beach: cold water, stoney (bring water shoes).
- Take turns with household chores.
- Visit the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute museum: See movies, displays.
- Visit the Marine Biology Lab (MBL) aquarium: See harbor seals, aquatic petting zoo.
- Go pub-crawling in town; walk home afterward.
- Walk to town for ice cream after dinner.
- Take whale-watching cruise from Barnstable.
- Go on half- or full-day fishing trip; bring home dinner.
- Walk on golf course at night, unless the caddies catch you.
- Go snorkeling at Sippewissett at low tide (warm water).
- Send children to town for newspaper.
- Juggle with the Falmouth juggling club
- Take ferry to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket.
- See exhibits in basement of MBL
- Go on MBL science cruise with genuine biologist.
- Lie around on screened porch.
- Go to MBL beach (sandy but polluted) before someone catches you.
- Swim around the point from Gansett beach to MBL beach (better be in shape)
- Sneak down to country club beach in the rain.
- Walk, rollerblade, or bike to Falmouth and look at shops -- buy cool knives from hardware store
- Walk, run or drive to Nobska lighthouse and watch the sunrise or sunset over The Hole.
- Buy expensive chocolate at the Woods Hole drugstore
- Hang out with college or grad students in ``downtown'' Woods Hole.
- Go to the baseball field and juggle.
- Play board games inside when it rains.
- Make music, or reasonable facsimile thereof, on deck.
- Fish for cunner off docks in Woods Hole.
- Pick blackberries, rose hips or blueberries around the countryside.
- Go night-fishing off the jetty near Gansett beach.
- Climb Lion Rock near Gansett Beach.
- Picnic on Gansett Beach at sunset.
- Sail sunfish or other solo boats off Gansett Beach.
- Read literature from the ancestral Sturtevant family library.
- Buy cheap used books from the Woods Hole Library.
- Hunt for treasure on the beaches and in the schoolyards (bring your own metal detector).
- Look at sky through telescope (no streetlights).
- Tour the Cape Cod Potato Chip factory (free samples).
- Tour the National Seashore at Provincetown (long day's drive).
- Buy live lobsters and have a lobster feast (Relatively cheap!).
- Eat the best fried clams on the East coast.
- Return all beverage containers for deposit.
