The Great ALE Picnic I

This is a page for planning the Great ALE Picnic.

ALE Barbecue Great Success!

cshapiro and jkinney.jpgcshapiro and skilpatrick.jpgcshapiro leaning.jpg

About 25 people ate chicken thighs and steak at the First ALE Barbecue. The Big Green Egg performed admirably, and many people brought side dishes and beer. Michael Hirsch took pictures with his cool hacked disposable camera. Special thanks to Matt for his three kegs of very fine home-brewski! We talked about Cool Geek Things amid flying children until about 22:30. A Good Time Was Had By All.

Even other folks liked it.

The great ALE picnic lived up to its name. Charles showed off his BIG GREEN EGG and told us all how Atlanta was the world Big Green Egg headquarters. We also got an impromptu fire juggling act. I think he used ColdFire. hehe.

It was an interesting and compatible mix of ALErs and nuBridgites in attendence. The food was awesome--especially the BBQ cow flesh. The bird was good, but the beef was incredible. People tell me the homebrew (not Charles', but someone else's) was tasty. And all the side dishes were good, too.

If you weren't there, kick yourself.

Thanks, Charles. And thanks to Judy for putting up with us quite pleasantly.

RSVP for March 20, 2004

The barbecue begins at 6pm. It is located at 3366 Rockbridge Road, a mile or two North and West of the intersection of Memorial Drive and I-285 (exit 41).

Yo, here it is March already. The time for cookouts is approaching.

I plan to be at the Install Fest and at the ALE meeting this month.
Maybe we could powwow one of those places?

This might be a really fun thing. Alas, I won't be at the meeting Thursday
(Valentine's Day with the wife).

But if some one (ones) brought this up during announcements and got a quick head count,
I'd love to help move a potluck ALE grill along. If it's under 20 or so, we could do it
in a backyard (I'd even volunteer mine!). More than that and we are probably looking at
renting a pavilion at Stone Mountain or somewhere else. This is not insurmountable, but
we probably need to get on it quick before spring actually comes and other groups start
taking the spaces during the best weather weekends.

I'm not sending this out to the ALE list 'cause it looks like it'll need some actual
planning and thought among a small but ruthless cadre of experts.

That's a GREAT idea!!
A geek-grill potluck for ALE family and friends. As soon as the weather
looks good for a while (today would have been great) we should do this
just for the networking/social aspects. Who knows, maybe some S.O.'s
might develop a little more tolerance for collecting "that computer
junk" :)

Hmm. Charcoal smoker, gas grill, tongs, hickory and mesquite chips.
Makes my mouth water thinking about ^H^H^Htofu steaks and bean
sprouts^H^H^H grilled portobella mushrooms and red bell peppers,
tandoori chicken, burgers and salmon steaks!
